01 What this covers
This Cookie Policy explains how Altrum uses cookies and similar technologies — local storage, session storage and pixels — on this website. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data generally.
02 The short version
This site sets no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no tracking pixels. It writes exactly one key to your browser's local storage, to remember whether you prefer the light or dark theme. That key never leaves your device.
03 Cookies explained
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later requests. Local storage is a similar browser feature, except the data stays on your device and is only read by scripts running on the same site — it is never automatically transmitted.
Both are commonly grouped by purpose:
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to work or to stay secure. No consent required.
- Functional — remember a choice you made, such as language or theme.
- Analytics — measure how the site is used.
- Advertising — build a profile to target ads, often across sites.
We use only the first two categories, and only the single item listed below.
04 What we actually store
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
altrum-theme |
Local storage | Remembers whether you selected the light or dark theme, so the site does not flash the wrong colours on your next visit | Until you clear it | Functional / strictly necessary for a feature you requested |
The value of that key is the literal text light or dark. It contains no identifier, is not linked to any other data, and is not sent to our servers or to anyone else.
Hosting-level cookies
Our hosting provider (Firebase Hosting, operated by Google) may set strictly necessary cookies for security, request routing and abuse prevention at the network layer. These are not set by our application code, cannot be used to identify you for advertising, and are exempt from consent requirements as strictly necessary.
05 What we do not use
To be explicit, this website does not use:
- Google Analytics or any other analytics platform.
- Advertising or retargeting pixels, including Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok and Google Ads tags.
- Cross-site tracking cookies or third-party identity graphs.
- Browser fingerprinting, canvas or audio fingerprinting.
- Session recording, heatmapping or mouse-tracking tools.
- Social media embed widgets that track you.
- Chat widgets or A/B testing scripts.
If we ever adopt analytics, we will publish it in this table, update the effective date, and request your consent through a proper consent interface before anything non-essential is set.
06 Third-party requests
Two things on this site cause a request to a third party:
- Google Fonts. The Inter and Instrument Serif typefaces load from
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com. That request necessarily includes your IP address and user-agent so the font file can be returned. Google states that it does not set cookies on font requests and does not use them for advertising. - Outbound links. Links to app store listings or client sites take you to services with their own cookie practices. Read their policies once you leave ours.
If you would prefer no third-party font request at all, a content blocker will stop it; the site falls back to your system typeface and remains fully usable.
07 Managing your choices
Clearing the theme preference
Clearing site data for this domain in your browser removes the altrum-theme key. The site will then follow whatever theme you pick next; nothing else changes and no functionality is lost.
Browser controls
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Delete browsing data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data, or Advanced → Block all cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
You can also browse in a private or incognito window, which discards local storage when you close it. Blocking storage entirely will not break this website — you will simply be asked for your theme preference again on every visit.
08 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we do not track visitors, there is no behaviour for a Do Not Track (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to change — we already treat every visitor as if the signal were on. We honour GPC as a valid opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information, of which we do none.
09 Cookies in apps we build
Applications we build for clients may use cookies, SDKs, advertising identifiers or analytics — that is the client's decision as the app's publisher, disclosed in their own privacy policy and in the store's privacy nutrition label or data safety section. This policy covers only the Altrum website.
When we build such features for a client, we implement consent collection consistent with GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, Apple's App Tracking Transparency and Google Play's data safety requirements.
10 Changes to this policy
We update this policy whenever the storage this site uses changes, and review it at least annually. The effective date above always reflects the current version. Any change that introduces non-essential storage will be accompanied by a consent request before that storage is used.
